What a successful start to the 2008 season the three weeks of “Try the Track” have been. The aim for this season was to give the U16 and U14 riders, who will be riding fixed wheel at Preston Park for the first time this year, a warm up on the track and some experience of bunch riding. For the seniors there was also the chance for a pre-season warm up and, it was hoped, the opportunity to pass on their experience to the youth riders. With three full evenings and 45 or more riders signing on every night the programme was a great success. And for those younger riders who will still be on freewheel this year there was still plenty of opportunity to pick up on their skills and get in some track time.

And now we are all ready for the start of the season with the promise of some really exciting races across all of the age categories. But before we leave Try the Track for 2008 we really must pass on our thanks to all concerned particularly the coaches, John Scripps, Anthony Rogers, Sally Page and Roy Page. SCRL would also like to extend their thanks to all of the other British Cycling coaches that have actively given their support over the last few months in preparing our youth riders for the change over to fixed wheel. With four sessions at Calshot in February and March and one final session at Newport this coming Sunday these young riders have had access to a vast pool of experience and had some great fun along the way.
